The St. Marys Garden Club accomplished another awesome conservation and beautification work project. Over a dozen members raked, rolled, and sowed over 5 lbs of longleaf pine-wiregrass understory seed mix. Plus planted over 12 species of wildflowers to support the pollinators and wildlife at Crooked River State Park. Great job!
A big thank you to all for your support of this project.

Propagate Hope - Garden!
We had purchased a dozen individual species of local eco-type wildflower seeds from Goldenmane Tickseed to Dense Blazing Star to be sown across entire Pollinator Restoration Area except for recently solarized sections.
In addition, we had 5 pounds of longleaf-wiregrass understory seed mix containing many species such as Indian Grass, Little Bluestem, and Purple Coneflower. The seed was sown on the bare soil, which we raked and then rolled flat, in the solarized sections.
We mixed seeds with some sand in large ziploc bags to help us scatter evenly by hand.

Crocked River Bee Meadow Tour 2020
In 2019, we started our partnership with Friends of Crooked River State Park to work on the Pollinator Restoration Area. We purchased native wildflower seeds (partridge pea, lovegrass, rattlesnake master, Drummond phlox, goldenmane tickseed, blanketflower, and Mayflower beardtongue) to reintroduce some plants that would support native bees, honey bees, and gopher tortoises.
GCG State Parks and Public Lands Grant 2019
St. Marys Garden Club was awarded a GCG State Parks and Public Lands Grant. We designed and planted the landscape for the front entrance of Crooked River State Park. We placed dwarf Walter’s Viburnum and Itea in the stone planters along with some society garlic and daffodils. Behind the planter along the driveway, we made groups of native azalea and groups of oakleaf hydrangea. Following are pictures of the project.
